FOSTERING THE JOY OF LEARNING

Teachers at Luma are experts at facilitating joyful learning. Children follow their own curiosity and aha-moments to stay motivated, and teachers observe and gently guide as they go. Allowing children to have the opportunity to learn through self-discovery inspires them to uncover their gifts and feel the true joy of learning.

Spaces and tools that shape learning

The Montessori classroom is referred to as the prepared environment. It is a meaningfully structured learning space where every element has a purpose and a place. Furniture is light and child-sized, tools and learning materials are designed to fit in children’s hands, and everything is designed to be useful, open, and accessible.

UNCOVERING PASSIONS

Children learn best when they are free to move, free to choose their own work, and free to follow their interests. In a Montessori classroom, children decide how to move around the prepared environment, work where they feel they will learn best, and discover learning outcomes through hands-on experiences. Montessori learning is largely active, individually paced, often self-correcting, and tailored to the needs and interests of each individual child.

BEYOND ACADEMICS

The Montessori Practical Life Curriculum incorporates exercises and activities into each school day. These activities develop children’s independence, concentration, and fine motor skills. Typical practical life activities involve pouring and transferring, food preparation, lessons in grace and courtesy, and cleaning.
